仙巌園 曲水の宴 A Winding Stream Party at Senganen
皆様、こんにちは。
最近鹿児島は4月の気候と思えない程暖かくなり、花見日和の毎日でございます。
ですが今週末は少し冷え込む予定ですので、
今週末お越しのお客様はジャケットを1枚お持ちいただくことをおすすめいたします。
さて、春といえば仙巌園で毎年行われる「曲水の宴」でございます。
仙巌園の曲水の庭は昭和34年に発見されました。
この庭は第21代藩主、島津吉貴が1736年頃作庭されたものと言われています。
時代が経った今でも曲水の庭は作庭時とほとんど変わらない状態で保たれており、
参宴者も武家の礼装で参加されており、全国でも極めて珍しい四季のイベントでございます。
今年は明治維新150周年ということもあり、徳川宗家、会津松平家、庄内酒井家のご子孫や、駐日英国大使館首席公使の方々をお招きした宴でございます。

Hello, everyone.
It’s been amazingly warm spring weather in here, Kagoshima prefecture. It is perfect weather for a cherry blossom viewing in this season.
Speaking of spring, there will be Kyoku-sui-no-en which is known as Winding Stream Party on April 8th at Senganen. The garden of Kyokusui in Sengansen was found in 1959 (Showa Period in Japanese history) and is believed that was built by Yoshitaka Shimazu, 12th Hanshu, in 1736. Even after decades, it is kept as it was in the 18th century.
People also wear Japanese traditional cloths to keep the party conventional. Because it’s been kept the way it was in the 18th century, people say that it is very rare to see a Winding Stream Party in a garden like that in Japan.
Since it is 150th anniversary of the Meiji Restoration this year, the descendants of Tokugawa shogun, Aizumatsudaira shogun, and Shounaisakai shohun and a representative of the British Embassy in Tokyo will attend the winding stream party this year.
